August 2010 – Letter from Kelly McGivern

Ohio’s health plans are continuously looking for ways to help their members achieve better health and make improvements in the way health care coverage is delivered.

From access to smart phone applications to drug consultations with pharmacists and nutrition programs, Ohio’s health plans are working to shape up the future of health care.

Every year the Ohio Association of Health Plans’ Pinnacle Awards recognize the outstanding efforts of our health plans in three categories: business and operational programs, health care, and community outreach.  This year awards went to three OAHP member companies.  Click here to read the press release with this year’s winning programs.

In addition, our health plans’ efforts to try innovative programs to help employees take control of their health are being recognized by Ohio business publications as well.   Dayton B2B, a business publication from the Dayton Daily News, did a story on OAHP members including Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield, Humana and UnitedHealthcare and their efforts to help employers and consumers in Ohio.  From having a dedicated nurse liaison to piloting a diabetes and hypertension program, Ohio’s health plans are working to make a difference to improve health outcomes.

It is critical that we recognize these efforts that aim for better health care that can produce better health outcomes, while keeping an eye on costs.   Ohio’s health plans are dedicated to doing just that.
